Please note: St Peter's PCC has taken the decision to support the Vicar and Churchwardens in their legal duties to make sure the Chancellor of the Diocese's regulations for the churchyard are kept.
This means that we have placed notices in the churchyard reminding people of what was not permitted on graves and memorial plaques and giving time for their removal.
We have now, with heavy hearts, carefully removed the remaining items that are not allowed and we have put them near the South porch for collection by their owners.
Two important points that people do not always realise are that a grave in a churchyard is not owned by the relatives of the deceased - it always remains the property of the church; and that the regulations for churchyards are made by the Chancellor of the Diocese and are different from the rules pertaining to cemeteries.
