Newsletter – Summer 2010

Dear Members and Friends of KOINONIA

The 2010-11 programme is well underway and as we will not be meeting as a full group until September, here is a note or two to bring certain events to your attention.

The ”Munch Bunch” Evening on 2 July was a WOW!! – good food, good company; what more could one ask for? A big ‘Thank You’ to Marianne for making all the arrangements.

The bookings for the London Trip, 17 July will soon close; we have a few seats left so if you have been thinking of making the trip with a few friends, we urge you to contact Ansley Burrows on 023 9246 7039 as soon as possible to secure your seat.

The September 21st meeting is a talk and demonstration on Silk Paper Making which is promising to be a very interesting and enjoyable evening and we will be taking home a small masterpiece!

Once again we have been building up to our Fashion Show on Friday 8th October so please be sure to have the date firmly written in your diary.

On 2nd November a local writer will be speaking to us: if you like a thriller, why not take a look at her books? – Pauline Rowson is the author, well known for her marine mystery series of crime novels featuring the flawed and ragged Andy Horton. Has this whetted your appetite? The Hayling Bookshop has copies of her books: she will be pleased to sign copies after her talk.

Now to Christmas. It is not too early to think Pantomime (adults only, no children). Friday 17th December, Mayfair Theatre, ‘Alladin’ with Lilly Savage (Paul O'Grady). The cost of the evening performance will be around £25 per ticket; the coach will be extra (money will be required up front). I would like to know as soon as possible if you are interested in going and how may tickets you require. We will let you know the closing date

BY POPULAR DEMAND

November 24th sees the return of Sandra Simmonds (‘Behind the Veil’) with a follow-up talk ‘Life After Iran’; another unmissable event.

BOOK CLUB

As a growing group, we are keen to develop different branches of interest; in the original plans, it was felt that a Book Club for those interested would be an idea worth pursuing. The first meeting of the club will be September 6th at 7:00pm at the home of Sue Lewis. The book to be discussed will be ‘The Help’ by Kathryn Stockett.

BIRTHDAYS

Yes, we all all have them – wanted or not! If you let us have the day and month of your birthday (we do not want to know the year!) KOINONIA will remember your birthday with our ‘Best Wishes’
